Opening Day Keynote & Executive Roundtable

EP16 Opening Keynote - Big Easy/Big Dreams

Tuesday, April 19 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Room: Great Hall B
The future is a difficult to imagine. Predicting the future is even harder. Our jobs are fairly simple - generate power so that every day the lights come on when someone flips the switch. That is a simplistic view of what we in the power industry have to face each day to achieve the goal. With changing regulations and technology, doing our job becomes more difficult each year because it is us that have to make the lights come on. But we have to do this while meeting every rule and regulation imposed upon us by government – all the while offering prices that the customer can afford. But why can’t our jobs be as fun as it was for Ben Franklin, Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla? Let’s shelve the rhetoric about regulation, cyber security threats and fuel type arguments, and instead build the power generation industry of the future? Hear Leo Denault’s keynote address as he opens the 18th Annual ELECTRIC POWER Conference and Exhibition and inspires us to learn more and dream bigger.

EP16 Opening Keynote - The Digital Transformation of Electricity

Tuesday, April 19 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Room: Great Hall B
Electricity is the foundation of global growth; however, over one billion people have insufficient power today. By 2025, we’ll see a 50 percent increase in the demand for power. To meet these challenges, there is a dynamic transformation under way across the entire energy value chain to maximize opportunities across the business and operations. Inexpensive sensors and big data, coupled with advancements in analytics and integrated software intelligence into hardware assets and control systems enable new and existing power generation, grid, and power consumption assets to operate at much higher levels of performance and operational effectiveness in order to drive smarter economic outcomes. Learn more about the future of energy and discover game-changing innovations.
