Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) to be presented award at ELECTRIC POWER Conference & Exhibition

Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) will be given a Faraday Award during a Veterans in Power session at the 18th Annual ELECTRIC POWER Conference, which takes place April 21-23, 2015, in Chicago, IL, at the Rosemont Convention Center.

The Faraday Award, which recognizes employers who have successfully connected, employed, and engaged veterans to become long-term employees in the power industry, is bestowed to PG&E for their Power Pathways Program.  PG&E’s Power Pathways was launched as a way to ensure the training and development of the next generation of utility workers.  Since 2008, the program has trained and placed 340 veterans into utilities, with an additional 320 veterans engaged in other aspects of Power Pathways.

Accepting the Faraday Award for Pacific Gas and Electric are John Simon, Senior Vice President of Human Relations, and David Claveran, Senior Military Workforce Strategist.   The program is widely recognized as one of the best utility hiring programs in the country, with collaboration from military veterans, the public workforce development system, and various unions.  Early in April, Vice President Joe Biden praised PG&E for the Power Pathways Program.  “This is one of the premier programs in the country,” said Biden.

This is the second year that ELECTRIC POWER Conference, which brings together the entire power generation industry, has held the Faraday Awards.  “Connecting our hard-working veterans to the power industry is crucial to the future of our industry, so we’re looking forward to celebrating PG&E’s program and appreciate Mr. Simon and Mr. Claveran’s presence at ELECTRIC POWER to share their success story,” said Jamie Reesby, ELECTRIC POWER Show Director.

ELECTRIC POWER’s Veterans in Power and Faraday Awards were created with collaboration with Prequalified Ready Employees for Power (PREP Intl.) to celebrate success stories in hiring veterans into the power industry.  Additional 2015 Faraday Award winners include Lone Star College System and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), for their collaboration in training and employees over 150 veterans.
