New Belt Cleaner Keeps Workers from Harm’s Way during Service
Safe-to-Service Belt Cleaner
[Neponset, IL] Martin Engineering has designed a new belt cleaner with safety in mind.
This new Safe-to-Service belt cleaner allows for all service to take place outside of the chute, preventing injuries and keeping workers safe while servicing belt cleaners. Martin’s definition of Safe to Service is “the ability to safely service the product from outside the chute wall or the conveyor structure without breaking the safety plane.” Some plants require a confined space permit if you are going to reach through the safety plane (the outer edge of the chute work). With all adjustments being made from the operator side, there is no need to obtain a Confined Space Permit. Designed to disengage from the tensioner, the safe-to-service cleaner permits the blade cartridge to be pulled out far enough to take out the quick-release pin and remove the blade. Once the new blade is installed, the cartridge can be pushed back into position and the tensioner can be engaged. The blade’s high-performance urethane is manufactured in house for highest quality control. The one-pin blade replacement makes replacing blades an easy, no-tool operation performed from the outside of the chute. Adjustable to suit different head chute widths, the Safe-to-Service Belt Cleaner is available in primary and secondary models. The primary cleaner, QC1TM Cleaner XHD STS, is suited for heavy-duty applications, on belt widths from 18 to 120 inches operating at speeds up to 1200 fpm. Martin’s patented Constant- all stages of blade life. Blades are available in color-coded urethane to suit application, and come in the following options; solid blade, slit blade, segmented blade, or slit & segmented blade. The stainless steel mandrel is supplied with extra length and may be cut after installation to avoid the mandrel from sticking out too far and becoming a hazard. Containing a series of holes in the cartridge, the blade can be lined up with the material path to provide effective cleaning where needed. The secondary cleaner, SQC2STM Cleaner STS, is suited for medium to heavy-duty applications, on belt widths from 18 to 96 inches operating at speeds up to 1000 fpm. The patented rubber buffers maintain cleaning pressure while deflecting to allow splices to pass without damaging the belt. The rugged construction withstands harsh applications, like high-speed belts and high- -####- |
