Innovative Traveling Water Screens on Display at ELECTRIC POWER 2015
Hydrolox® traveling water screens meet the standards of Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act, recently finalized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The screens will be on display at ELECTRIC POWER 2015, booth 331. The EPA developed regulations under Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act, which requires that the location, design, construction and capacity of cooling water intake structures reflect the best technology available for minimizing adverse environmental impacts—impingement and entrainment. Traveling water screens equipped with fish buckets, a low-pressure wash and a fish handling and return system minimize adverse environmental impacts caused by once-through cooling water systems. The EPA concluded that the BTA (best technology available) for minimizing impingement mortality was “modified traveling screens,” and specifically noted in the rule that Hydrolox screen designs have “shown promise in reducing impingement mortality.” “Hydrolox screens offer proven technology that will contribute to healthier ecosystems,” said Hydrolox lead engineer Ross Doyle, PE. “We are pleased to work with industrial partners across the United States and Europe, installing water screens which reduce costs and provide the best technology available for minimizing mortality rates of aquatic life.” Hydrolox traveling water screens are a powerful solution for 316(b):
Hydrolox engineered polymer screens are currently available in the United States and Europe. For more information, visit http://www.hydrolox.com/316b.aspx.
