EP15 Workshops/Co-Located Meetings
ELECTRIC POWER 2015 is proud to offer the following workshops in conjunction with the Workshop instructors. If you are interested in adding to this list of workshops or would like to suggest a workshop to be hosted at EP please contact Kim Arellano at [email protected]
Track 1: Power Plant Performance and Profitability
As Power Generation markets continue to evolve they have become more competitive and demand that power plants, regardless of fuel utilized or primary generating technology, be operated efficiently and cost-effectively and that plant management respond in near real time in order to manage multiple and continuously changing variables. The discussions in this conference track are intended to highlight accomplishments and concepts that address many of the issues facing today’s power generation facilities. The topics include: understanding the implications of changing fuels, making planned outages cost effective and efficient, generating plant asset management practices and safety practice/culture. Several sessions will be applicable to any fuel with selected sessions focused on coal generation and others emphasizing gas fire generation.
Track Chair: | Mike Harbison, President, M E H & Associates, LLC |
Track Co-Chair: | Phillip Webster, Retired, Independent Consultant |
Track 2: Environmental Compliance
Environmental rules and regulations continue to put pressure on continued operation of fossil generation. Multiple regulations involving air, water and waste challenge utilities to address compliance with a holistic approach. Experts taking part in these sessions will present strategies and technologies for compliance.
Track Chair: | Grant Grothen, Principal, Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. |
Track Co-Chair: | Suzanne Paouncic, PE, Director, Business Strategy, FirstEnergy Generation Corp |
Track 3: Technology Advancements & Improvements
Digital controls, wireless monitoring, operational software, 3-D modeling, and forecasting tools are changing the way power systems and power plants operate. As efficiency, flexibility, and cost-competitiveness grow in importance, technology is leading the way to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Track Chair: | Jim Ekmann, Engineer/Economist, Leonardo Technologies, Inc. |
Track 4: Power Plant Resiliency
The name of the game is mitigating risk while simultaneously ensuring safety, complying with regulations and keeping the power plant competitive in a fluctuating market. Learn how to build resiliency in your power plant to mitigate risk from high impact, low probability hazards, as well as preparing all parties for the unexpected.
Track Chair: | Gregory Long, Director - Asset Management, Jiangnan Environmental Technology Inc. |
Track Co-Chair: | Justin Clift, Managing Partner, Fire Solutions Group |
Track 4: Power Plant Resiliency: Emergency Response & Training Session
The name of the game is mitigating risk while simultaneously ensuring safety, complying with regulations and keeping the power plant competitive in a fluctuating market. Learn how to build resiliency in your power plant to mitigate risk from high impact, low probability hazards, as well as preparing all parties for the unexpected.
Track Chair: | Anthony Natale, Project Specialist/ Emergency Management, Consolidated Edison Co of New York Incorporated |
Track Co-Chair: | Justin Clift, Managing Partner, Fire Solutions Group |
Track 5: Combined Heat & Power
Combined Heat & Power (CHP), or Co-generation, is a natural application allowing industrial and institutional facilities to have high efficiency and clean sources of electricity and heat from a single fuel source. This track presents actual CHP facilities, project development concepts, and technology applications.
Track Chair: | Samuel Barnes, P.E., President & CEO, Middough Inc. |
Track Co-Chair: | Michael Morris, P.E., Executive Consultant, Independent Consultant |
Track 6: Generating Power from Coal-Gas-Renewables
This track is dedicated to covering fuel specific topics not covered in other ELECTRIC POWER sessions. If you use it to generate power then we are talking about it.
Track Chair: | Mike Schimmelpfennig, Principal Engineer, Ameren |
Track Co-Chair: | Ashwani K. Gupta, Professor. Director, University of Maryland |
