NYC Fire Department Teams with EP on New Emergency Response Track

In an instant, emergencies can turn a routine work environment into a scene of chaos where the threat of injury—and worse—as well as significant property damage is imminent.

Furthering our commitment to making safety topics a major focus, ELECTRIC POWER introduces its newest track, Emergency Response. Developed in part with the help of Consolidated Edison Co. of New York and the New York City Fire Department, these must-attend sessions will provide your team with actionable insights into emergency management and a clearer understanding of what first responders need to know when they arrive at your facility to lend their assistance.

Your entire team will want to be present on April 2 when Captain Michael Stein, FDNY (retired), and Mathew Palmer, formerly of ConEdison’s Emergency Response Group, discuss how to improve the relationship between key power plant personnel and fire and emergency responders. Your team will learn how to talk to the fire department in an emergency situation and what first responders need to know when they are standing at the incident command post.

On April 3, plan to attend “Preventing, Addressing, Eliminating and Overcoming Bulk Storage Hazards,” which includes a presentation by DTE Energy on a bunker burn down process it has developed to address the problem of blockage that may result when PRB coal is mixed with other products. DTE also tracks hot spots with the use of a bunker CO monitoring system and an infrared tool to pinpoint these spots.
